Simplicity
It seems like a distant dream, doesn’t it? Life can feel so over-full, messy, and chaotic sometimes.
When unexpected surprises happen (both delightful and despairing), they can send you into tailspin that takes weeks to resolve.
It’s not what you want, but you’re not sure how to get to that simpler, less chaotic life.
Moving toward a simpler life
There are no easy solutions to a lack of balance. Chances are good you’ve tried a few already—movement, eating better, new planning tools, setting intentions, decluttering—with some good results.
What hasn’t happened is an overall reduction in the number of things you’re juggling. While you may have cultivated a better attitude, the pressure on you hasn’t decreased.
Looking deeper
In my experience, moving toward simplicity is a process. It takes work to understand the sources of complexity and stress in your life. Once you do, it takes time to align your actions with what you value.
While it’s possible to do this work solo, supportive guidance and community can assist you in getting where you want to go.
Simplify
A series for creating simplicity in your home and life
This winter and spring, I’m offering a series of several classes to aid you in simplifying your life.
February: Simplify Your Routines
March: Simplify Your Space
April: Simplify Your Work
With intention and focus, each class in this series intends to help you progress toward the simple, sane life you long for.
What to expect
My approach offers you questions that spark insight. I don’t force my opinions or give ill-informed advice on what you “should” do. Instead, I guide. My questions help you engage your own inner guidance to discover for yourself what to simplify and how.
In the course of three weeks (the duration of each topic), you’ll explore how to simplify each focus area and begin taking steps as you are able toward smoother, saner systems.
Your routines will grow simpler.
Your belongings will become simpler.
Your workload will grow simpler.
With each topic, your life and physical space will gain more simplicity, ease, and clarity.
What each class includes
Each topic meets for three consecutive weeks.
During each of the three 90-minute sessions, you’ll reflect on open-ended questions designed to spark insight and clarity about how to simplify your routines, your space, and your work.
To accomplish this, we will engage in several activities including writing, sharing, and pausing for quiet reflection.
Bonus: The class also includes both half-day Declutter Retreats, to support any physical clearing you may want to do to support your efforts toward simplicity.
How I came to simplify own my life
One day I just really crashed. I woke up to the realization that nothing I was doing with my life made sense or felt connected to my authentic self. Not knowing what to do with this insight, I just started cleaning out my closets, thinking that the physical work would make me good and tired. When that was done, my focus shifted to cleaning out Facebook friends. Eventually, I found myself letting go of major responsibilities.
It took time, but this process of simplifying my many “urgent” and “important” obligations and projects made space for what I really love: exploring, writing, and soul work. The deep satisfaction I feel today is my reward for all those hard decisions. I feel aligned in my life and work (and my house is pretty clean too).
If you’re looking for less in your life (but more of what satisfies you), I hope you’ll join me on this journey!
